My Blurb from the last session My Goal was to integrate the SFL concepts into my school. WES already has much of this in place, but the overall concept was too grand so we honed it into something manageable and attainable.
This was done by reviewing the original definition.
SFL is the process through which meaningful and reflective dialogue arises. Its first priority is to serve the purpose of promoting learning - child, teacher, paraprofessional, principal, vice-principal and parent.
At a recent Focus meeting which we have every two weeks we decided as a staff that we need to bring the 'majority' of parents on board with the initiatives we have happening in the school. These include: Power of Ten, SmartLearning, Healthy Buddies and various minor initiatives like the Community Garden.
Our plan revolves around introducing these to parents in the fall as part of a reintroduction to the school year.

Managing or resolving Conflict For me the most important factor after being a Principal in other locales before coming to District #6 is the ability to recognize that conflict needs to be resolved, usually as quickly as possible - but that each conflict situation is unique.
1. To begin that process we need to distinguish between where the conflict arises in professional or personal situations. Who needs to be involved and what are their roles. Possible outcomes should be considered before proceeding to determine the validity or necessity of how the conflict is addressed.
2. When does conflict management become conflict resolution or are they the same?

Managing Conflict In response to your questions Pat, I would say that my biggest question in managing conflict is knowing some fast and sure techniques of calming the person or people down and getting to the real issue of the conflict.
The second question, "What do you hope to learn from this session?" includes the above and also training in being able to quickly assess if immediate danger exists for the staff, students, and for me.:)

Managing conflict 1. What are your biggest questions regarding managing conflict?
I need to know a lot more about managing conflict as I tend to just hope some things will just go away. (not best practice). Therefore, (question #2) I’d like to learn how to deal with conflict in a non-power oriented way.
I’d also like to be able to bring about world peace.
